Abstract
In an urban stretch of the Ikpoba River, S Nigeria, Brycinus longipinnis predominantly fed on Chlorophyceae and Bacillariophyceae, while B. nurse mainly depended on detritus, filamentous Chlorophyceae and insects. In both species, fish size influenced the consumption of some food types. Monthly variations in feeding habitats showed that all major types of food were consumed throughout the rainy season. B. longipinnis was a predominant day feeder; B. nurse fed variably during days and nights. -from Authors
