Research output: Chapter in Book/Report/Conference proceedingChapter

Abstract

This chapter aims to illustrate the stages of women’s sports development in Oman since the beginning of the Omani renaissance in 1970. This study was carried out through a qualitative design that implements semi-structured interviews as a data collection technique. The study sample consists of ten interviewees who work as senior administrators, coaching staff, or participated in the women’s sports sector as referees or athletes. The study results show that there are progressive elements in women’s sports at the competitive/elite level and conservative trends in the community sports level. The results also suggest that the Omani model of developing women’s sports attempts to find a development path that suits the Omani culture vis-à-vis benefitting women’s development sports in the Omani context.
