Abstract
This paper sheds light on the perceptions of the gendered relations and the position of women in any Muslim society, which the Muslim groups in the Province of Shendi have (i.e., the Republican Brother, the Sufis, the Ansar el-Mahdi, the Ansar el-Sunna and the Islamic Movement). These issues represent areas of religious beliefs and practices over which a controversy among the Muslim groups in Northern Sudan nowadays stretches. The arguments maintained in the paper depend on how these Muslim groups feel of themselves and of each other.
