Abstract

Discovered around a century ago, ionic liquids (ILs) have gained the profound interest of interdisciplinary researchers. Several intriguing properties and applications have been suggested in the past few decades. One of the most promising applications of ILs is their usefulness in clinical applications. Starting from the preparation of a drug, ILs can be used as a solvent, drug carrier, excipients, and others. In the recent years, a new concept of delivering drugs (such as antiinflammatory, anticancer, antiviral, etc.) using ILs has seen an upsurge. This chapter provides a glimpse of emerging trends in ILs-based drug development.
