Abstract
Adsorption is known as an effective and commercial method for the removal of toxic metal ions and organic pollutants from wastewater. This chapter is written to discuss about the source of heavy metal ions pollution and their removal using low-cost adsorbents, mainly rice husk. Rice husk is one of the low-cost agricultural by-products which have been used as a sorbent material especially to absorb heavy metals. Several activating agents have been reported for chemical activation process; however the most important and commonly used activating agent is phosphoric acid. The chapter provides an insight into various adsorption models laying stress on utility of Dubinin-Radushkevich (DR) isotherm studies of equilibrium sorption of metal ions onto phosphoric acid modified rice-husk.
