Abstract

The number of elderly people is increasing worldwide, as is the case in the Arab world. This is often explained by improvements in the quality of health care and social welfare. This longevity is associated with increases in several chronic diseases including dementia. This chapter will explore dementia as a global health issue, focusing on its prevalence and sociocultural impacts. We will also address dementia research in the Arab world and suggest some means of improving it.
