Carbon neutrality in schools: How we can achieve it?

Abstract

Carbon neutrality is considered one of the most important goals for countries and societies to achieve due to its anticipated benefits on the lives of all living organisms, as well as its central role in any attempt to achieve sustainable development goals. Therefore, shedding light on this topic and informing the next generation of its significance is essential. Educational institutions play a vital role in helping students improve knowledge, skills, and emotional resilience; they undoubtedly shape students' characters and enable them to face various challenges, particularly ones related to the environment. This chapter addresses carbon neutrality by defining it, outlining the goals related to it, and emphasizing its importance in protecting the planet. Additionally, the following discussion addresses the role of educational institutions, such as schools, in promoting awareness of carbon neutrality among stakeholders directly involved in education and in the local community. Finally, awareness-raising methods and class activities will be presented.
