Abstract
Objective: To study the anomalous left lobe of liver in gross anatomy specimens. Method: The study was conducted in 100 gross anatomy specimens of the liver. Results: Out of 100 specimens studied, only a single specimen exhibited an exceptional larger left lobe with additional notches along the inferior border (1%). The left lobe was comparatively larger as compared to the right. No abnormalities were detected in the other 99 specimens. Conclusion: The classical concept of anatomical division of the lobes by the anteriorly placed falciform ligament is usually violated in this type of anomaly where the left lobe is exceptionally large as compared to the right one. Surgeons and radiologists may be aware of the anatomical and clinical significance of enlarged left lobe of liver with additional notches.
