Abstract

This study aimed to investigate the extent of including the concept of Philanthropy in content of Islamic education textbook sin Oman, Jordan, Egypt, and the UAE. This was carried out by tracking the appearance of the concept in the Qur’anic verses included in the Islamic Education school textbooks in these countries. The study attempted to compare the four countries in terms of the presentation of the concept in their curricula, and the educational implications drawn from it. It also seeks to identify the areas of philanthropy that have been highlighted in the content of the Islamic education curriculum. To gather the data, these objectives were formulated in the form of four research questions. To achieve the aims of the study, content analysis research methodology was used to analyze the inclusion and presentation of the Philanthropy concept in the content of grades 1-12 Islamic education textbooks in the four countries .The instrument used for the content analysis was a checklist developed by the researcher where the unit of analysis and the counting was the Qur’anic verses and the type of analysis was the classroom grade level. The data was analyzed by the descriptive statistical method. The main findings of the study are summarized the following: - the concept of philanthropy was not included in the content of the four countries’ curricula-with sufficient differences among them. - The concept was not presented in the different grade levels in a balanced and logical sequence. - The concept was presented as an independent topic only in very few instances . It only appeared in the areas related to philanthropy to parents and the reward for those who perform philanthropy but not in relation to philanthropy in worship and human dealings and transactions. Therefore, the study provides the following recommendations: - a more comprehensive and thorough presentation of the topic should be included the school textbooks. It should be given a worth and due consideration, and care as an important topic that influence the learners beliefs and behavior in all walks of life. - It should be treated as an independent topic rather than scattering it across other topics - There should be a careful balance in presenting the topic in the textbooks across the different grade levels.
