Abstract
This study aimed to find out the degree to which Islamic education teachers in the Sultanate of Oman practice emotional intelligence skills according to the Golman’s model and its relation to professional
competence within some variables. The study used the descriptive approach. The sample consisted of 200 male and female teachers, selected randomly from 31 schools in Muscat Governorate. To achieve the study aims, two scales of emotional intelligence skills and professional
competence were used after checking the validity and reliability of the tools.
The results revealed that there is a statistically positive correlation between
the emotional intelligence skills and the professional competence of teachers. The teachers practice emotional intelligence skills at a high level and their most common skills are self-awareness, social skills, and empathy. The results also showed a high level of commitment to the standards of
professional competence among teachers. Personal characteristics ranked first between the two dimensions of professional competence scale. The results revealed that there are statistically significant differences in both emotional intelligence, and professional competence due to the type
variable, while there are no statistically significant differences due to the
years of experience. The study recommended the need to train teachers in
emotional intelligence skills, as its positive impact on their professional competences.
