Abstract
One of the most challenges that face Ministry of Higher Education in relating to the graduate students is the study of the alignment between professional and academic preparation and the needs of labor market. Especially, at the time that most universities are looking for accreditation in order to improve their education and to develop the curriculum and teaching methods. The main purpose of this study is to identify to what
extent the professional and academic preparedness of archive management specialists at Department of Information Studies at Sultan Qaboos University are aligned with the knowledge and skills developed by cilip (Chartered Institute of Library and Information Professionals) which is the leading professional body for international academic accreditation in information and archival studies. Quantitative approach was adopted
for data collection, using short survey which includes 13 basic skills and other associated skills developed by cilip. The population includes the student (27) at the department who are training in archival institutions in Sultanate of Oman, and the managers of documentation departments (11) or employees, who responsible for student training. The study found that the majority of student agreed that they gain most of the
skills that develop by cilip, especially information organization and search strategies through the curriculum. The study also found that the majority of managers are
satisfying with students' skills and they think that the students gain most of the skills
developed by cilip. Recommendations are provided
