Project Details

Description

There is a scarcity of information available pertaining to the biology of the Arabian Oryx (Oryx leucorx). The ultrastructural evaluation of the leukocytes of the Oryx will serve as a basis to establish an understanding of the normal morphology of its white blood cells and serve as a means of comparing these cells with those of other members of the Family Bovidae. Furthermore this study will permit researchers to have an opportunity to relate the immunobiology of the leukocytes to their structure and establish the fundament to be able to understand pathological states occurring in white blood cells. Blood samples will be collected from apparently clinically healthy adult Oryx and will be prepared for light, scanning and transmission electron microscopy. The morphology of each leukocyte will be described as well as its characteristic ultrastructure.
