Project: Internal Grants (IG)

Project Details

Description

Technology has invaded all aspects of our lives and it shapes it forever. Health care sectors are required to take advantage of technology and mental health sector are not exempt from this. The aim of this study will be to use a developed mobile phone application (Pill reminder and medication tracker ? My Therapy) and to test the impact of using it on patients with schizophrenia adherence to medication. It also aims to explore the impact of using the mobile phone application on the incidence of re-hospitalization among Omani patients with schizophrenia. To achieve the aim of the study a non-equivalent quasi-experimental group design will be used. 120 participants will be recruited (60 in the intervention group and 60 in the control group) from Al Masarra hospital and Sultan Qaboos University hospital (SQUH). Medication Adherence Rating Scale (MARS) will be used for assessing both the groups? adherence to medication. Descriptive statistics such as mean, standard deviation, and frequency will be calculated to describe demographics. Inferential statistics such as person will be used to find whether the number of a hospital visit is affected when it correlates to MARS. A Paired t-test and ANOVA will be used to test the hypothesis to see if the population mean adherence to medication is the same before and after using the application.
