Study of magnetization reversal of magnetic multilayers using magnetooptical Kerr effect

Project: Internal Grants (IG)

Project Details

Description

Magnetic materials are widely used in our life. They can be found in most of electronic devices, power supplies, telecommunication devices, memory storage in hard disk drives ? etc. For each application, the magnetic materials properties have to be adjusted with several requirements. Perpendicular anisotropy materials are promising for better thermal stability and scalability to nanoscale. In this project, we will work on building a magnetooptical Kerr magnetometer for studying the magnetization reversal of different magnetic thin films. From Kerr microscopy, the shape and size of magnetic domain will be evaluated. The dynamical behavior of the domain under magnetic field and their evolution with time will be investigated.
