Project Details

Description

Project context and aim Advances in the development of new treatment are limited in the field of sarcoma and only few publications on sarcoma from Gulf Region are currently available in bibliographic databases. The project aims to describe demographic, clinicopathological, radiomics characteristics, and patterns of care of sarcoma patients and explore potential correlations between them. Methodology Potentially eligible patients will be identified from the database of the Department of Pathology of the SQUH. We will include patients of 15 years or older of any sex with histopathological diagnosis of connective tissue neoplasm of any anatomical site. Clinical data will be obtained from the SQUH PACS, RIS and HIS systems. We will extract data on demographics of affected patients, anatomical, histopathological, and imaging characteristics of tumors using radiomics and artificial intelligence methods, relevant molecular alterations, type of biopsy, treatment offered, and response to first line chemotherapy. Data will be quantitatively described and correlation between variables will be explored. Expected outcomes The findings of the study will contribute to a better understanding of the distribution/spread of sarcoma in Oman and could be useful for the conception and the design of future clinical, epidemiological, and implementation studies in connective tissue neoplasms.
