Preparation and characterization of Magnesium-alloys

Project: Internal Grants (IG)

Project Details

Description

We propose to extend the experience gained in studying iron alloys systems to study the Mg- Ni system. The systems will be doped with Fe, and Pd. These materials are of great importance for hydrogen storage studies. Both theoretical (discrete variational method) and experimental (Mossbauer spectroscopy and X-ray diffraction (XRD), transmission electron microscope (SEM) and others) techniques will be used to determine the electronic and magnetic structure of systems. It is proposed to use ball milling and glove box for sample preparation. The major purchase of items in this project are milling vial system, glove box parts and pure elements for the synthesis.
