Project Details

Description

Genetic disorder is an important health concern in Oman and nurses, being the largest group of healthcare professionals who undertake a large proportion of patient care, are strategically positioned to contribute to the field of genetic healthcare. While many nurses are beginning to recognize the importance of improving genomic knowledge and skills, studies have shown that many nurses in the clinical practice do not fully understand the concept. In Oman, this study remains unexplored. Therefore, this study will be conducted to explore genomic literacy among nurses in Oman and their views on their role and responsibilities in genetic healthcare. Findings of the study will provide valuable inputs in the development of educational and training programs to enhance genomic literacy among nurses. Further, findings will guide in the curriculum planning, development and revisions to effectively integrate genomics in nursing program. This is a descriptive, cross-sectional study using a self report scales consisting of a demographic form and a questionnaire relating to nurses? genomic knowledge and their role and responsibilities in genetic healthcare. Utilizing a a nonprobability sampling, a total of 444 nurses from selected hospitals in Muscat will be taken as samples. Data will be collected over a period of two (2) years. Data collected will be analyzed using the SPSS version 23 using descriptive and inferential statistics.
