Project Details

Description

A good night-time sleep is an important physiological requirement for a healthy life. Disturbed night-time sleep pattern is one of the main causes of sleep disorders Pregnancy is a special condition wherein the sleep pattern and duration undergoes changes. Sleep pattern and obstructive sleep apnea has been studied during pregnancy with conflicting results regarding pregnancy outcomes. Increasing numbers of Omani females form part of work force in Oman. Sleep patterns among these working women may be compromised. Also at societal level among Omani population, sleep pattern has remarkably changed in recent years with tendency to have polyphasic sleep pattern. They tend to sleep three episodes per 24-hour with increasing number of Omanis taking long ( 1 hour) This represents a special case vis-vis the rest of the world as regards sleep habits. Considering the above factors, we aim is to investigate the link between sleep duration and disturbances and pregnancy outcomes. We use home sleep study and actigraphy to test for sleep parameters in young pregnant women ( 30 years of age) and study their association with gestation diabetes, fetal growth and mode of delivery. The expected time to complete the study is three years
