Project Details

Description

This project will investigate the multiple ways in which the Indian community has impacted Omani society from a historical, economic, cultural and social perspective. It will study the long standing, civilizational relations between the two countries as they stand presently by examining the historical relationship of the two geographical areas as well as study the impact of those relations on Omani society today. Based on quantitative as well as qualitative analysis, this project aims to identify the multiple ways in which the Indian presence in Oman has affected the social and cultural fabric of Oman and identify areas of intercultural understanding. Investigations will particularly focus on linguistic influence, cultural cross currents such as dress and jewelry, the influence of films, television and other entertainment modes such as live concerts, as well as contemporary social media. The aim of this research is to understand the various levels at which the Omani and Indian experience has effected, impacted as well as enriched both communities
