Cardiac arrest is the most common cause of mortality with 60% of individuals presenting to emergency department with out of hospital cardiac arrest. Literature highlights that 90% OHCA are fatal with 70% of incidents occurring at home. While the American Heart Association clearly directs on the resuscitation guidelines there is lack of standardization on termination of CPR and the decision making is weighed on the team leader during the resuscitation(Adnet et al., 2016; AHA, 2020). While similar studies are conducted in Oman, there is no study related to duration of CPR to outcome. Hence the aim of the study is to investigate “Impact of cardiopulmonary resuscitation duration on functional outcome among OHCA. Study Design: This quantitative design approach using retrospective cohort study will study regarding OHCA at SQUH, Royal and Khoula hospital from January 2018- December 2022. Data analysis plan: Data will be analyzed using descriptive & inferential statistics.
Projected benefit: The study will identify the average median time for CPR, the outcome of CPR and its relationship to the duration of the CPR.
The proposed topic of research is important to Oman as there is no data or research conducted on the topic. And the findings of the study will be relevance in terms of clinical decision making in clinical practice and recommend more strategies in terms of Emergency Medical practice and its management such as ambulances services and expand the connectivity to the community in delivering quick and efficient care.
