Effect of multiple environmental stressors on the behaviour of wadi fish

Project: Internal Grants (IG)

Project Details

Description

Freshwater ecosystems in Oman are threatened by many pressures including chemical pollutants and rising temperatures due to global warming. These stressors can affect the ability of native fishes to cope with natural stresses such as predators. This study will measure the response of native fish to a combination of natural and man-made stressors. Endpoints will include behavioural changes, growth rates and physiological responses. The long-term aim of this study is to understand how native fauna respond to human impacts and develop guidelines for greater protection of Oman's unique wadi fauna.
