Creation of skyrmions by pulsed laser for magnetic memory devices

Project: Internal Grants (IG)

Project Details

Description

Magnetic materials are widely used in our life. They can be found in most electronic devices, power supplies, telecommunication devices, memory storage in hard disk drives ? etc. In the field of storage memory and information technology, there is a need for increasing the storage capacity. Traditional scheme based on reversing the magnetization to write the data is no more sustainable as there are only two states which is the equivalent of one bit per cell. Toward multi-bit per cell memory, skyrmions-based devices offer the possibility to store a large number of data by using a multistate scheme. In this project, we propose a new way of creating skyrmions using a pulsed laser. This method could help to control he density and the size of the skyrmion which are required for real applications.
