Project: Internal Grants (IG)

Project Details

Description

The government institutions in the Sultanate of Oman publish 46 periodicals. These periodicals represent 55% of the total periodicals issued in the Sultanate of Oman, according to the Ministry of Information reports until the first half of 2017. These periodicals are part of the "institutional communication" in the Sultanate, and they are also a form of specialized journalism in the fields of education, health, environment, military, security and other fields. Although some of these periodicals history date back to 1974, as opposed to some of them that are still exist today, but they have not been investigated yet in a comprehensive and scientific study to determine their characteristics in terms of contents provided. In the last two years, these periodicals have also faced problems of continuing or switching to electronic versions after some government institutions have reduced the financial costs of issuing and maintaining such periodicals. This study intends to provide a scientific overview of these periodicals and to make appropriate recommendations on how to develop their contents and to keep them issued or converted to electronic version.
