Biological Deterioration as an Approach to Terminate the Effective Fishing Life Span of Lost Traps

Project: Internal Grants (IG)

Project Details

Description

Ghost fishing is the ability of fishing gear to continue functioning and induce mortality to aquatic organism after all control of that gear is lost by fishers. The impact of lost gears to environment and fishers is very high and well documented in literature. However, effective and economically viable solutions are not yet well identified. This study will be investigating the use of vegetable fibers through utilizing their biodegradable characteristic to terminate the effective life span of lost traps.
