Role of Media in Promoting Coexistence and Countering Extremism, Russia as a Model

Activity: Talk or presentation typesOral presentation

Description

This study seeks to explore how the media can foster harmony among different faiths and address intolerance, particularly in the context of religious dynamics in Russia. The researcher draws from personal experiences, having observed instances of religious tolerance during their participation in the International Visitor Program IVLP in 2012, where they represented Al-Azhar. During this program, the researcher visited five distinct states in the United States and gained insight into the status of religious minorities and the role of religion in the American Constitution. This exposure provided valuable insights into the treatment of religious minorities in a diverse and sizable nation like the United States.
Due to its vast size and diversity akin to the United States, Russia also upholds freedoms of belief and ritual practice. Both nations share historical contexts of coexisting nationalities and religions. Given their stature as major powers, fostering stability necessitates promoting dialogue among followers of diverse faiths and emphasizing cultural commonalities for stability and development. This endeavor requires collaboration between the state and society, mirroring the current approach in Russia.
