This precise study addresses the performance and potential of using Electric Vehicles (EVs) in Oman. It starts with identifying the representative driving cycle where 40 driving tests are performed to obtain the representative driver profile. The tests are done with a vehicle equipped with measurement tools to log important values. The driving cycle and driver profile are used as input data for a vehicle simulation model, which consists of detailed sub-models for the driver, driving cycle, vehicle components and its dynamics. The model is used to evaluate the performance in terms of energy consumption for Internal Combustion Engine (ICE) vehicles and EVs. Using of EVs seems a promising option to replace the existing ICE vehicles that use petrol. A great saving potential in driving cost can be earned when using EVs, as a direct reflection of the reduction in energy consumption. The measurements and the simulation results encourage further investigation of exploiting electric vehicles with renewable energy.
