ملخص
This paper presents the results of a study on the potential use of petroleum-contaminated soil (PCS) in construction applications including stabilizing the soil with cement, mixing it with crushed stone aggregate for use in road bases or subbases, and using it as a fine aggregate replacement in hot mix asphalt concrete. PCS was obtained from Fahud asset area (northern Oman), where PCS is transported for treatment. PCS was subjected to the toxicity characteristic leaching procedure (TCLP). The chemical analysis of the extract indicated that the concentrations of metals and organic compounds did not exceed the maximum contaminant levels set for TCLP extracts. When PCS was used as an ingredient in the construction applications, the results indicated good potential for use in road construction.
