This paper investigates the problems of skidding on Muscat streets, particularly during wet seasons and recommends treatment solutions. Typical street sections from Muscat area were selected for field investigation and laboratory testing. The necessary related data, such as years in service and traffic experience were gathered. Field tests were undertaken for six months using a motometer decelerometer and a pendulum skid tester. Measurements included temperature, length of skidding and texture depth. Cored samples were visually assessed and tested in the laboratory. Field data and test results were analyzed, and the factors contributing to the loss of skid resistance were identified. A predictive relationship between the friction coefficient and the skid length was determined. The research findings will have a positive effect on constructing and maintaining roads to reduce skidding accidents.
