Employing Classical Approximate Analogies in the Arabic Teaching to Illustrate Phonetic and Phonological Topics

Abstract
The approximate analogies are crucial means in the creative teaching process, which help in clarifying the linguistic topics and issues that are challenging for the learners and need analogies with familiar phenomena to be easier to grasp. This study seeks to unravel employing the means of approximate analogies in the investigation of phonetic topics’ details through linking them with the Arab Bedouin environment and its significance for humans, animals, and the desert tent. The research question, represented by the following questions, investigates the invention of these approximate analogies and how they facilitate the mental perceptions enabling the understanding of phonetic concepts:
1- Why are certain approximate analogies linked to the speech organs that are difficult to see with the naked eyes?

2- How did the ancient linguists compare the pharyngeal cavity and the oral cavity with the flute and stringed musical instruments based on the physics background?

3- What is the relation between the birds’ chirping and singing with the sibilant sounds in these approximate analogies?

This study is based on the qualitative method in the analysis of these approximate comparisons content in order to classify them into categories that are suitable to the phonetic topics. The preliminary findings reveal that these approximate analogies are employed for teaching purposes as a method of teaching Arabic according to the available means in those ancient times. The study suggests linking classical teaching means with the developed modern means in teaching Arabic with the aim of explaining how the speech organs produce sounds.
