Chromatographic Techniques in Phytochemistry and Analytical Techniques in Elemental Profiling

Humans have used phytochemicals for multiple purposes for ages. To explore and understand the features (chemical and biological) of any plant (or part) extract, it is essential to purify and isolate its constituents. Moreover, it is also important to determine the accurate molecular structure prior to delineate structure–activity relationship. To this end, chromatography remains a mainstay in phyto-chemistry research. In this chapter, we highlighted the applications of some commonly used chromatographic techniques and their variants in identifying phytochemicals. To this end, we selected phytochemicals with antioxidant properties as they have been linked with various benefits, including cancer, cardiovascular diseases, and diabetes.
