A combined effect of stoichiometric-oxygen-hydrogen gas and alumina nanoparticles on CI engine operating characteristics

ملخص

This study focuses on using alumina nanoparticles (NPs) and stoichiometric-oxygen-hydrogen (SOH) gas from water electrolyzer as fuel additives. The engine experiments were performed using a 4-stroke, single-cylinder, air-cooled, direct injection diesel engine at 2000 rpm and different loads. Four different concentrations of alumina NPs were used (25, 50, 75 and 100 mg/l) while a constant flowrate of 0.2 l/min of SOH was used. Two base fuels, diesel (D100) and 30% diesel + 70% diesel (B30), were considered. Minimum reduction by 6.8% and 15.6% in bsfc were noticed for 75 mg/l of alumina NPs in in D100 and B30, respectively. A 55% average reduction in bsfc was achieved by addition of SOH to D100. For D100-SOH, the bsfc was noticed to increase with the addition of alumina NPs. The addition of SOH gas to B30 reduced bsfc by 8% compared to B30. The addition of alumina NPs to B30-SOH fuel increased bsfc. The addition of alumina NPs to D100 increased NOx emissions by 12% while a 28% reduction was noticed with the addition of SOH. For B30 and B30-SOH base fuels, scattered profiles of NOx were monitored.
