Description

Boron in the environment is becoming a critical chemical parameter for groundwater quality due to release from anthropogenic activities such as detergents (soap and cleaning agents), glass production, fertilizers, and petroleum extraction processes. PDO supplies water to its camps after RO (Reverse Osmosis) treatment. However, even after the treatment there is still considerable amount of boron in water especially in boron rich wells. Alternative approach in boron remediation and in the management of water high in boron will be required in the future considering the increasing demand of water consumption. Such approach will definitely include contamination restriction at the source due to higher effectiveness and lower cost. Thus, we aim to identify the water boron sources and geochemical processes which are responsible for high boron in groundwater in areas related to PDO activities.
