Description

In order to get international accreditation and to be able to compete in the global educational community, universities in Oman need to consider embracing ICTs in education. Empirical research has proven that ICTs are capable of transforming the delivery of e-learning and can have fundamental impact on improving students' learning and the achievement of measurable learning outcomes. Oman is a developing country and its higher education is relatively in maturity stage with the first public university, SQU, being established in 1986. Although the ICTs utilization in higher education in Oman has advanced in the past decade, it is worthy to note that, however, research on the effect of ICTs on learning is in its infancy. Only a few studies have been conducted in this area of research. Overall, the debate with respect to ICT?s role in higher education in Oman has yet to be investigated. Therefore, the purpose of this study is to address the effectiveness of the use of ICTs in Oman's higher education.
