Description
The research focuses on the study of approximately 352 copper artifacts hidden in the form of an archaeological hoard in a hole in the ground found by chance during the construction of the Cultural Center on the campus of Sultan Qaboos University in 2004. The archaeological site was then excavated by a team from the Department of Archeology at the College of Arts and Social Sciences in the form of rescue excavation. The artifacts date back to the end of the second millennium and the first millennium BC. The discovered metal tools are distinctive and very important for archaeologists, especially those interested in the archaeology of the Oman Peninsula, because of they are unique in type and variety of forms in addition to the quality and perfection of manufacture. These pieces will be studied, documented and restored, and then displayed at the National Museum of Oman.
