Sexual and Reproductive Health Attitudes, Knowledge including HIV/STIs and Educational Needs among Undergraduate University Students in Oman

Description

Risky sexual behaviours, can put young people at risk for sexually transmitted infections (STIs), including human immunodeficiency virus (HIV), and are associated with high school dropout rates, stress, psychological problems, and academic failure (UNESCO, 2018; Vinciullo and Bradley 2009; WHO, 2020a). There are is limited studies which investigated Middle Eastern young people sexual and reproductive health (SRH) attitudes, knowledge educational needs, which this mixed-method study set out to explore. It is intended that this study will provide implications for changing educational policy for designing and implementing of school-based SRH education programs in Oman. This can result in improving young people SRH behaviours and knowledge and wellbeing. In this study, a mixed method design will be used. In phase one , a across sectional design using a self-administered questionnaire will be employed. In phase two, a qualitative descriptive approach using focus group discussions (FGDs) and in-depth individual interviews will be used.
