Recording Management Practices of Small and Medium Enterprises in Oman.

Vision Oman 2040 says that Sultanate of Oman gives utmost importance to the development, induction and retention of Omani graduates in the senior level strategic as well as operation roles. However, the hope that new graduating Omani citizens will replace expatriates in the senior management requires Omani Universities to build ?skills? necessary to prepare for those strategic and operation positions. For such a development of mind, the lecture method-based upon theoretical knowledge mainly driven from Western context, alone is not sufficient. Therefore, we need to produce local examples related business practices of Oman. This local content can help reduce the gap between theory and practice. The case method of teaching instruction is based upon the belief that management is a skill more than it?s a collection of techniques or concepts. The best way to learn a skill is to practice in a simulation-type environment. Thus, the swimmer swims, the pianist plays the piano. A case provides an opportunity to the student to learn how to analyse a management situation and develop a plan of action. In order to fulfill this objective, the main goal of this research will be conducting qualitative interviews, observations and reviewing company documents of SMEs in Oman across different industries to prepare teaching cases study that can be utilized for teaching purpose in the courses such as organizational behavior, leadership, strategic management, human resource management, market, and strategy. It is expected that at least 2 teaching case studies and 1 industry note will be published in SRJ listed Scopus journals. The research will be conducted by Dr. Said Al-Riyami and Dr. Waheed Ali Umrani, from Dept. of Management.
