Modulation of Leptin receptor levels by suppressor of cytokine signaling protein 6

Suppressor of cytokine signaling 6 (SOCS6) is intracellular proteins that targets proteins involved in insulin signaling and oncogenic receptors. Previous work demonstrated that SOCS6 is a tumor suppressor that targets FLT3 and c-KIT receptors, which are involved in leukemia. Other cellular targets were also identified such as erythropoietin receptor. This project aims to investigate the role of SOC6 proteins in modulation and ubiquitination of Leptin Receptor (LR). We will use in vitro experiments to determine the stability of LR after over-expression and under-expression of SOCS6. Also, we will perform ubiquitination assays. Future future work will focus on role of SOCS6 in human ovarian cancer patients with dysregulation of leptin.
