Description

This research projects aims to develop a new configuration for multiple-input multiple-out (MIMO) antenna system for future generation of mobile phones, targeting future 5G and 6G communication systems. The first phase of this project shall focus on the MIMO antenna design modeling using state of art Electromagnetic full-wave simulators (Ansys HFSS). The MIMO antenna system shall integrate antennas that will be compatible with sub-6GHz bands (3G and 4G), in addition to future 5G frequency bands (millimeter-wave antennas). In this modeling study, the performance of the MIMO antenna system will be assessed, including antennas? operational bandwidth, mutual coupling (electromagnetic interference) between antenna elements as well as other factors. The second phase of the project shall concentrate on the fabrication and experimental validations from the simulation results of the designed mobile phone MIMO antenna system. Furthermore, the performance of the MIMO antenna will also be assessed numerically while on hand and close to human head in order to ensure safety of the user while using the antenna system within a customized handset unit.
