An Exploratory Descriptive study to assess the prevalence of chronic wounds and Health-Related Quality of Life among the Patients with chronic wounds in Muscat Hospitals.

Description

Chronic wounds, defined as wounds which do not heal in a logical set of stages, impact patients? quality of life by disrupting their self-esteem, sleep, social interaction, work capacity, and psychological well-being. Chronic wounds are a prevalent problem in Oman due to the high number of patients with diabetes, sickle cell disease, road traffic accidents and decubitus ulcer. Therefore, it is of paramount importance to assess the prevalence and incidence of chronic wounds in the government hospitals of Oman and to explore the Health-Related Quality of Life of these patients with chronic wounds. This will be done by using a cross-sectional, quantitative descriptive study design to elicit the information from the perspectives of patients admitted with chronic wounds in Muscat hospitals. Patients will be interviewed using an Arabic version of a valid and reliable survey on quality of life wound impact questionnaire. Data will be collected with the self-reported questionnaire about demographic profile, clinical profile, and quality of life to answer the research questions. The findings of the study will contribute to the importance of formulating policies related to improving quality of life as an additional aspect along with wound management.
