Teaching

Teaching has always been an important part of my academic life. I have had a privilege of teaching a variety of courses at national textile university Faisalabad including an undergraduate polymer engineering course, a graduate and post graduate level courses. In all of these courses, I made an intentional effort to provide the students perspectives on how the solid understanding of the basic concepts of engineering, characterization and basic tools that are covered in class is essential for analyzing problems and their solution later in courses or outside of their coursework. Effective teaching requires, in my opinion, an engaging learning environment and flexibility to meet students’ needs. I strive to create a positive and open atmosphere in class, fostering participation and discussion. I assign readings in advance, sometimes about current events and debates, and encourage questions and comments, which helps keep students engaged. Fostering class participation is important not only to keep students motivated but also to identify the hurdles they are finding in the learning process. Encouraging students to come to office hours is also instrumental in that respect. Another important ingredient for effective teaching is careful course preparation. I invest a lot of time in course preparation and planning have developed some of the new courses in undergraduate, graduate and post graduate level. During the development of these course, I have taken much care that these courses must be aligned with industrial need as well as recent innovation specially in paints and coatings subject. When preparing lectures, I carefully consider how to present the essential assumptions and implications of each theoretical model, how to break the models down into their building blocks, how to explain each of these clearly and precisely, and how to bring in real world examples and applications. My teaching philosophy has evolved over time, and the guidelines for effective teaching that I now follow reflect the insights I have extracted from a critical examination of my past teaching experiences. I hope to keep learning and improving as a teacher in the future, and I am certain that I will remain as enthusiastic and committed as I was when I started teaching. Besides lecturing, I will happily participate in organizing reading groups and seminars as well as other activities that enhance the learning experience.

Personal profile

I have my PhD in polymeric membrane and during my studies, I have gained much understanding in this area. I have worked under renowned professors in this emerging field. I have studied the nanocomposite membranes for water treatment for drinking water through desalination. I have published more than 20 articles in membrane technology domain. I have published around 9-10 book chapters in these domains with internationally recognized journals. I have not limited my knowledge in this domain but extended the work in nanomaterials, functional materials and off Couse polymeric nanocomposite for different application. I have extended my area of research according to the industry need like paints and coatings and conducted 3-4 projects with the industrial collaboration. Similarly, the applied research projects were given to students like, ultrasound gels, antistatic shoes. The functional material is very emerging field, So I have synthesized and later on utilized these materials in polymeric blends for the potential applications in EMI shielding, energy, sensors and photocatalytic area of research. The HEC funding was also awarded on the basis of functional materials in the field of sensos of worth 7.714 million. There are more than 55 research articles published in highly impact factor journals. With this diversification, I extend my research field in these areas of research already mentioned above as well new direction to help out the industry in some potential application of paints and coating as I also have background of industrial experience in this domain. There is lot of potential in this field like functional coatings. I am also looking for some industrial domain in water treatment field as this is very special area to address and water scarcity is increasing and membrane technology is the only area of having excellent solution to future water needs.
