Research interests

al-Muᶜtaṣim b. Saᶜīd al-Maᶜwalī is a Religious Supervisor working for The Omani Studies Centre at Sultan Qaboos University. Additionally, after being a member of the Sharīᶜah Supervisory Board at Sohar Islamic, he was appointed as the Chairman of the Board. He holds a diploma degree in Islamic Studies, a bachelor’s degree in Islamic Education, an MA degree in Islamic Studies from the University of Birmingham, and currently conducting his PhD study at the same University. al-Muᶜtaṣim authored an eight-volume series of books on Islamic Jurisprudence called al-Muᶜtamad, including the sixth volume on Islamic Financial Transactions and Insurance, and the seventh and eighth volumes on Islamic Finance and Banking. In 2016, he published his English book Articles on Ibāḍī Studies. In February 2017, he published his translation of the first volume ‘The Reliable Jurisprudence of Prayer’ from Arabic into English. In 2019, he also translated ‘Christians in Oman’ from English into Arabic. al-Muᶜtaṣim presented some academic papers at some international conferences in Islamic Studies, including The Islamic and Middle Eastern Studies Forum 2017 at Birmingham University, The British Society for Middle Eastern Studies Conference in 2018 at King’s College London, at the University of Leeds in 2019, at the British Society for Middle Studies in 2021, at the British Association for Islamic Studies at the University of Edinburgh in June 2022 and at the Islamic College of Advanced Sciences annual conference (London) in May 2023. He is now a PhD candidate at the University of Birmingham.
