This course gives an overview of the history, scope, and role development of the Nurse Practitioner, Clinical Nurse Specialist, Nurse Educators, the Nurse Leader and other types of advanced practice nurses. The course focuses on the evolution of these roles and how they have influenced the development, transition, and implementation of today’s healthcare system. Professional competencies, educational requirements, regulatory controls and models of practice used by advanced practice nurses will be discussed. The leaners will get a chance to analyze key aspects and issues related to advanced practice nursing such as the Oman and global perspective on advanced practice nursing, advanced practice nurses in the Oman health care system, prescriptive authority, credentialing, teamwork and collaboration, malpractice insurance, resource management, laws and legal issues affecting advanced practice nursing, and others issues.
