The course starts with an overview of nanotechnology and its applications in several aspects of common topics. Several methods of preparing nanomaterials will be described. These methods include plasma deposition, self-assembly and nanolithography. The characterization of nanoparticles will be described with emphasize to the microscopy methods such as atomic force, scanning transmission and tunnel electron microscopies followed by other basic methods. The fundamental aspects of the macro- and nanoworld is described with the implications in the fields of physics, engineering, chemistry and biology.
