Abstract
The temperature dependence of thermal conductivity and diffusivity of harzburgite rock belonging to Oman ophiolite suite has been determined from basic ingredients such as the seismic velocities, density and the Debye temperature. The values of Debye temperature and its temperature dependence are obtained by utilizing the thermoelastic relation of solids where density, þ and velocities ϑᴘ and ϑѕ occur as important ingredients. The linear relationship between reciprocal of thermal conductivity and t mperature has helped evaluate the value of the residual thermal resistivity. The temperature dependence of diffusivity exhibits an Arrhenious type relationship. The computed values of thermal conductivity and diffusivity of Oman harzburgite are found to be 5.01 W m-1 and 1.86mm2 s-1 respectively. The later value compares well with that found for Papua New Guinea harzburgite
