ملخص

British documents are one of the important historical sources for studying the modern history of Kuwait Town; by which numerous facts and possible assumptions can be concluded for its background within the 18th and 19th centuries. Thus, the study aims to shed light on one of those neglected British MSS, which is George Barnes Brucks’ memoir. The latest MS was retained as a part of the Bombay Selections’ series, in volume No. 24 of 1856. The Memoir is a result of the British Bombay Government’s survey which took place on the Arabian Gulf shores for nine years of the hydrographic process (1820-1829). The survey outputs include reports and charts related to the history of the Gulf’s shores in the first quarter of the 19th century AD. The study seeks to determine the relevance and reliability of the memoir's texts and their compatibility with other historical sources before and after them. Hence, the descriptive and analytical approach has been applied to the texts of the memoir as well as the approach of historical criticism aimed at developing other possible or likely concepts that are not obviously stated in the Memoir. As a result, many conclusions have been addressed to generate debate on several historical problems related to Kuwait, some of which are connected to the settlement’s time of the ʻUtūb’s group on Kuwait the first ever ʻUtūb’s Sheikh post-settlement, earliest record of the town’s historical-collective narrations, and general matters of its society in 1824.
